mid-level Scientist

AECOM is seeking a mid-level Scientist in our Southfield, MI office to assist with a variety of projects including data management, site investigations and remediation. This position will be a hybrid role. 

The successful candidate will also assist with gathering and analyzing geological, hydrogeological, and geochemical data in a variety of settings. The field activities will consist of soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, air and soil vapor sample collection, geological logging and interpretation, and the oversight of subcontractors including laboratories and excavation and drilling companies.

Responsibilities of the position include:

  • Data reduction, review, and interpretation.
  • Drafting of figures using AutoCAD.
  • Familiarity with Part 213 and Part 201 of Michigan’s PA 451.  
  • Review of junior level reports and field notes to ensure compliance with Quality Management Systems.
  • Development of site specific SHE Safety Plans.
  • Completion of Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) paperwork and observations.
  • Sampling of various media including soil, groundwater, surface water and soil gas.
  • Installation of groundwater monitoring wells and vapor monitoring points.
  • Oversight of subcontractors performing various tasks.
  • Interaction with the public as a representative of AECOM.
  • Calibration of field instrumentation and documentation.
  • Completion of lithologic descriptions of soils from drilling activities.
  • Field preservation of samples in preparation for laboratory analysis

Minimum requirements of the role:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Environmental Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Planning, Engineering.
  • 6 years of relevant experience and or equivalent of experience and or education.
  • Familiarity with Part 213 and Part 201 of Michigan’s PA 451.
  • Michigan Driver’s License in good standing.
  • Candidates must be a U.S. Citizen

Preferred qualifications:

  • 8+ years’ experience
  • Project and task management.
  • Correspondence with subcontractors and vendors.
  • Coordination of field work.
  • Data reduction, review, and interpretation.
  • Report drafting and Conceptual Site Model development.
  • Review of junior level reports and field notes to ensure compliance with Quality Management Systems.
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training and annual updates.
  • Experience with AutoCAD.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Multi-tasker and problem-solver.
  • Attention to detail and desire to complete quality work products.
  • Proficient in map reading.
