    A day in the life of a Sustainability Department Manager at NTH

    ·   Lead sustainability strategy development through peer benchmarking, stakeholder engagement and external landscaping to assess material topics, establish and/or align goals and devise strategic roadmap to execution.

    ·   Facilitate communication and educational workshops with internal teams and leadership to bring cohesive alignment in accelerating sustainable business practices. Support external communication of NTH’s vision, mission and strategic objectives.

    ·   Partner with departments, strategic market leads, management and clients in the development and implementation of sustainable business practices and services in alignment with reputable standards and industry best practices.

    ·   Build, grow and manage a high-performance team in pace with integration of sustainability services and growth. Serve as a leader and subject matter expert while empowering and nurturing team member development. Direct, supervise and manage staff and budget accordingly.

    ·   Actively develop commercial strategies and key strategic partners to pursue and win new business opportunities that result in revenue growth with target clients aligned with NTH’s enterprise strategy.

    What you need to apply

    • Bachelor of Science degree in chemical, civil, or environmental engineering, sustainability, environmental science or related degree. Master’s degree preferred.

    ·   15+ years of demonstrated leadership experience in environmental compliance and sustainability programs with expertise in emerging regulations, sustainability frameworks, voluntary disclosure and climate science.

    ·   Skilled in engaging cross-functional teams driving alignment and progress toward a common goal.

    ·   Highly skilled communicator able to address varied audiences with exceptional balance of in-depth detail and poignant brevity.  

    ·   Must be an experienced leader, strategic thinker, and inquisitive professional that is interested in developing sustainable solutions to the nation’s complex environmental issues. A client advocate that understands the regulatory hurdles and is skilled in guiding clients and teams through the pathways to success. Brings perspective of global objectives and landscapes matched with deep knowledge of local issues and challenges to facilitate sustainability integration with current business practices and future opportunities.

    ·   Must have demonstrated, team-oriented approach to problem-solving, and have strong interpersonal skills for contact with clients, NTH project managers as well as corporate level senior management.

    ·   Ability to develop and maintain business relationships with targeted clients, develop business strategies and action plans for creating growth opportunities in line with NTH strategic focus. Conduct periodic site / client visits, project, and business development meetings.

    ·    Passion about sustainability and delivering exceptional programs and solutions.

    • Exceptional time management skills, ability to manage multiple assignments at any given time, and ability to work in a team environment and mentor/develop staff.
    • Strong organizational skills and high level of attention to detail.

    ·    May be required to perform job duties in the field and office, during non-standard work hours, as necessary.

    • Must be able to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.

    Staff Geologist/Environmental Engineer/Environmental Scientist positions

    Wixom/Detroit

    The person in this position will support assigned project managers, engineers, geologists, or other technical positions. They perform field investigation work in support of site assessment and remediation projects, assist in the preparation of draft Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessment reports, participate in design, implementation and reporting for assessment and remediation projects and other related environmental projects. They also assist in the completion of data and literature review work for geologic and hydrogeologic characterization of sites for environmental media including air, groundwater, and surface water at hazardous waste and other environmental contamination sites.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Geology, or Environmental Science, or related field of expertise or equivalent experience.
    • 3 to 5 years of experience in environmental consulting; with demonstrated experience in the completion of site assessments, remediation, environmental audits, data interpretation, and report writing.
    • Technical report writing skills and a working knowledge of MI and EPA regulatory requirements that are applicable to each project assigned. Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office applications, AutoCAD, and ArcGIS.
    • OSHA Hazardous Site Operations Worker Training (1910.120).
    • A valid driver's license and clean driving record is required for this position.

    Project Manager

    Wixom/Detroit, MI

    The person in this position will manage assessment, regulatory compliance, and/or site remediation projects. This includes management and execution of investigation, evaluation, and remediation of impacted sites. Assignments include preparing technical work plans, cost estimates, and contracts for assessment of soil, sediment, groundwater, and soil gas; data interpretation; boring/well logs, maps, cross-sections, and reports.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in environmental, geological, or chemical engineering; geology/ hydrogeology; or related disciplines.
    • 5 or more years of relevant work experience managing leaking underground storage tank projects.
    • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
    • Professional Engineer (PE) or Professional Geologist (PG) certification, as applicable, or ability to obtain.
    • Knowledge of relevant environmental regulations.
    • 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard (HAZWOPER) certification with documented refresher courses.
    • Project management experience.
