    A day in the life of an Environmental Project Professional at NTH

    • ·         Assist Project Manager(s) in managing Projects that require financial, technical, and administrative leadership and growing opportunities with new and existing clients. 
    • ·         Preparing and/or review reports for environmental due diligence/pre-acquisition studies, hazardous materials surveys, and vapor intrusion studies for Greenfield and Brownfield sites. 
    • ·         Assist with the preparation of technical proposals, change orders and financial work plans.
    • ·         Be a subject matter expert regarding environmental assessment and Brownfield funding services.
    • ·         Effectively manages workload to perform business development and meet project requirements.
    • ·         Mentor junior staff.

    What you need to apply

    • ·         Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year accredited college or university in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science or Geology or comparable discipline.
    • ·         40-Hour HAZWOPER training preferred.
    • ·         7+ years of experience completing Phase I/ II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), in accordance with ASTM E1527-21 and ASTM E1903-19.
    • ·         Experience with completing Baseline Environmental Assessments (BEAs) and Plans for Compliance with Due Care Obligations, in accordance with) Part 201 of Michigan’s Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act (Part 201) MCL 324.20101 – 324.20142.
    • ·         Knowledge of Response Activity Plan (ResAP), Documentation of Due Care Compliance (DDCC), No Further Action (NFA), and Incremental Sampling (IS) Methodologies.
    • ·         Experience completing underground storage tank removal and closure reports in accordance with Part 213 Michigan ‘s Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act of 451 of 1994 (Part 213) MCL 324.21301 – 324.21334.
    • ·         Familiarity with vapor intrusion studies, soil-gas investigation, and vapor mitigation system design in accordance with EGLE Guidance Documentation.
    • ·         Familiarity with Asbestos/Hazardous Materials Surveys for building rehabilitation and demolition projects
    • ·         At least 3 years of demonstrated leadership experience in mentoring and leading junior staff is required.
    • ·         Must have strong written and oral communication skills, be able to work in a team environment as well as independently, demonstrated collaborative approach to problem-solving, and have ability to interact with clients to understand their needs.
    • ·         Exceptional time management and organizational skills, and ability to work on projects for multiple project managers within budgets and timelines. 
    • ·         Must hold a valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance and be willing to travel to and conduct field work at job sites as well as NTH offices in Michigan.
    • ·         May be required to perform job duties in the field and office, during non-standard work hours, as necessary.
    • ·         Must be able to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.

    Your Opportunity

    Join Stantec’s team in Farmington Hills, MI as an environmental project manager supporting complex environmental consulting projects focusing on site characterization, remediation, and brownfield revitalization for key clients. Projects will include implementing environmental site assessments (soil, sediment, and groundwater); remediation; spill response; and vapor intrusion investigations in a variety of client service areas throughout the Midwest.

    The position requires an independent individual with solid problem solving and communication skills, and environmental remediation experience. Project management experience and professional licensure (e.g. PE, PG) are preferred.     Your Key Responsibilities

    • Assist Stantec’s National Asset Transformation and Brownfields team with grant writing and implementation.
    • Perform remedial activities at affected facilities, properties, or sites addressing chemical impacts in air, surface water, soil, soil vapor, groundwater, and/or sediment.
    • Managing or overseeing personnel conducting due diligence, Phase I ESAs or other environmental projects.
    • Conduct intrusive site investigations, Phase II ESAs, facility investigations, and remedial investigations of vapor, surface water, soil, groundwater, and/or sediment to determine the presence or absence, nature, and extent of constituents of concern.
    • Collect, and interpret data, conduct analyses, and compare findings to relevant studies and local, state and federal regulations to confirm compliance.
    • Compiling, evaluating, analyzing, and presenting/reporting subsurface investigation data and preparing technical reports.
    • Contribute to design and optimization of environmental remediation systems and strategies.
    • Maintain stakeholder relationships with direct communication with clients and regulators and respond to comments and problems as quickly as possible.
    • Collaborate with other scientific and engineering professionals within the practice.
    • Coordinate each project with the client and government agencies as necessary.
    • Mentor and provide direct hands-on assistance when teaching new environmental analyses, oral and writing skills to environmental specialists and staff scientists.
    • Stay current with environmental procedures, statutes, rules, guidance and policies.
    • Preparation of health & safety plans, work plans, reports, and other technical documents.
    • Coordination and oversight of subcontractors, including health and safety management.
    • Project management responsibilities may include developing proposals; managing project budgets and schedules; coordinating with clients, stakeholders, regulatory agencies, and internal project staff; and performing and overseeing project technical work.
    • Mentoring and/or supervising team members (e.g. engineer or geologists in training).
    • Travel may be required for the purpose of overseeing field crews, participating in off-site meetings, or training.

    Qualifications

    Your Capabilities and Credentials

    • Strong technical aptitude and technical/grant writing ability
    • Excellent organizational, communications, and problem-solving skills (able to communicate solutions in writing, verbally and graphically)
    • Ability to prioritize work and make responsible decisions.
    • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
    • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects at once and meet strict project deadlines.
    • Ability to travel regionally and locally as required for proposal and project needs (up to 30%).
    • Ability to pass a background security check and drug screen.
    • Valid US driver’s license and good driving record.

     

    Education and Experience

    • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Geology, Environmental Science, or Engineering or related field of study
    • 10-12 years of experience, predominantly in environmental remediation
    • Project Management Professional (PMP), Professional Engineering (PE) or Professional Geologist (PG) License preferred a plus but not required.
    • Prior experience in environmental consulting required.
    • 40-hour HAZWOPER training preferred
    • USEPA Brownfields experience preferred.

    Responsibilities
