    Environmental Specialist

    University of Michigan, Environment, Health & Safety Department, Ann Arbor, MI

    Date Available:  Immediately

    The Department of Environment, Health & Safety (EHS), Environmental Protection & Permitting Program is seeking an Environmental Specialist to assist with various environmental compliance duties.  One of the primary responsibilities will be the coordination of chemical and oil storage, and spill prevention.  Duties and responsibilities include maintaining and updating Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plans, Pollution Incident Prevention Plans (PIPP), providing inspections of facilities, and developing and providing training to ensure compliance with these plans.  Other essential duties include, but are not limited to conducting soil erosion & sedimentation control (SESC) construction site inspections and SESC plan reviews; reviewing plans and providing comments for construction and renovation of University facilities for environmental compliance;  preparing and updating periodic compliance reports, guidelines, manuals, newsletters, summaries, and bulletins; aquatic nuisance control permitting; large quantity water withdrawal reporting; and responding to inquiries from U-M faculty, staff, and contractors regarding environmental concerns and compliance. Must be willing to participate in after-hours on-call incident response program.   Additional activities may include, dependent on the selected candidate, assisting in regulatory air compliance and reporting.

    Environmental Scientist

    G2 Consulting Group is looking for a full-time Environmental Scientist with minimum five years of demonstrated experience to join our Environmental Consulting Department at our headquarters in Troy, Michigan. Environmental Scientist will perform Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments. Strong verbal and written communication skills, and a working knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations is required. Asbestos Building Inspector is a major plus.

    Required Qualifications and Skills

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering / Environmental / Ecological or other related fields
    • Minimum five years of demonstrated experience in environmental consulting
    • Strong communication (verbal and written) skills
    • Asbestos Building Inspector strongly preferred
    • Phase 1 Site Assesments
    • HAZWOPER training preferred
    • Certified Lead Paint Inspector preferred
    • Certified Wetland Specialist preferred
    • AutoCAD skills preferred
    • Strong prioritization and coordination skills, self-directed and self-motivated

    A day in the life of an Environmental Services Director at NTH

    • Leadership and management of NTH’s Environmental Operations, including business development, client interaction, and project management.
    • Provide senior-level technical, strategic, and project management leadership to the environmental team and project managers to grow our environmental services.
    • Function as an available point of contact with clients on environmental projects or tasks.
    • Support project managers and ensure the highest level of quality on project deliverables and client services.
    • Oversee communications between NTH’s environmental team and executive management.
    • Assist in managing all aspects of a project, including financial and technical components.

    ·         Direct, supervise, and manage staff.

    ·         Assist in recruiting and developing new service offerings.

    What you need to apply

    • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Environmental Technology, Environmental Science / Health, Natural Resources, or related degree, from a 4-year accredited college or university.  Master’s degree preferred.
    • Professional registration a plus.

    ·         15+ years of demonstrated leadership experience in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Environmental Technology, Environmental Science / Health, or Natural Resources, including:

    o    Air quality services, including permitting and compliance

    o    Civil design engineering for site development and improvement

    o    Environmental compliance assessments

    o    Hydrogeologic studies

    o    Environmental site assessments, including Phase I/II/BEA/Due Care

    o    Environmental risk assessments including complex issue analysis

    o    Ecological studies, services and permitting

    o    Threatened and endangered species studies

    o    Wetland Determinations, permitting and mitigation

    o    Remedial investigation/feasibility studies (RI/FS)

    o    Storage tank management

    o    Water quality services, including permitting and compliance

    • Land redevelopment

    ·         Experience with project planning, budgeting, delegation, and management to ensure compliance with project requirements.

    ·         Experience negotiating project scope and fees with clients.

    ·         Experience advocating for clients and projects with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies.

    ·         Experience leading and growing a team of diverse environmental professionals.

    ·         Experience with various environmental programs and as a subject matter expert.

    ·         Ability to organize technical material into comprehensive reports and perform QA/QC reviews on work product.

    ·         Project planning, invoicing and collections, budgeting, task delegation and management to ensure project is completed according to work plans.

    ·         Demonstrated ability to seek and establish new clients and build good business relationships with both new and current clients.

    ·         Develop and maintain professional business relationships with targeted clients.

    ·         Conduct periodic site / client visits, project, and business development meetings.

    ·         Assist in developing business strategies and action plans for creating growth opportunities.

    • Work with Business Development staff to develop new clients and opportunities. 
    • May be required to perform job duties in the field and office, during non-standard work hours, as necessary.
    • Must be able to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
    • Must have demonstrated team-oriented approach to problem-solving, and have strong interpersonal skills for contact with clients, NTH project managers as well as corporate level senior management.
