    About the Position

    This position offers you the opportunity to challenge yourself in real life situations in landfill
    engineering, air quality, site remediation, wastewater treatment, water and natural resources. ERG is a premier, fully integrated professional environmental services firm positioned to service public‐and private‐sector clients.

    We expect that the selected candidate will work on complex projects throughout Michigan and the Great Lakes region. Based on your current level of experience, you’ll likely be asked to take on business development and project management responsibilities, along with group leadership, staff management, recruiting, and mentoring tasks. These are some of the key technical responsibilities for this position:

    Building, leading and growing a practice in one of the following areas: groundwater / soil remediation design, solid waste, industrial wastewater design, or water resources. Overseeing and managing projects and coordinating with other practices and/or offices to facilitate project delivery, managing/mentoring staff, and managing subcontractors.

    Qualifications

    Michigan PE with BS or MS degree in environmental, chemical, or civil engineering with 10-years of experience in Environmental Consulting.

    2         Staff Geologist/Engineer/Environmental Scientist- Wixom, Lansing, Detroit, Muskegon, MI

    ERG is seeking Staff Geologist/Engineer/Environmental Scientist candidates in Wixom, Lansing, and Detroit, Michigan

    About the Position

    The person(s) in this position will support assigned project managers, engineers, geologists, or other technical positions. They perform field investigation work in support of site assessment and remediation projects, assist in the preparation of draft Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessment reports, participate in design, implementation and reporting for assessment and remediation projects and other related environmental projects. They also assist in the completion of data and literature review work for geologic and hydrogeologic characterization of sites for environmental media including air, groundwater, and surface water at hazardous waste and other environmental contamination sites.

    Qualifications

    BS degree in engineering, geology, or environmental science, or related field of expertise or equivalent experience.

    A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in environmental consulting; with demonstrated field experience in the completion of site assessments, remediation, environmental audits, data interpretation. Technical report writing skills and a working knowledge of MI and EPA regulatory requirements that are applicable to each project assigned. Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office applications.

    40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard (HAZWOPER) certification with documented refresher courses.

    3         Project Manager- Lansing, MI

    ERG is seeking Project Manager candidates in Wixom, Lansing, and Detroit, Michigan

    About the Position

    The person in this position will manage assessment, regulatory compliance, and/or site remediation projects. This includes management and execution of investigation, evaluation, and remediation of impacted sites. Assignments include preparing technical work plans, cost estimates, and contracts for assessment of soil, sediment, groundwater, and soil gas; data interpretation; boring/well logs, maps, cross-sections, and reports.

    Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree in environmental, geological, or chemical engineering; geology/ hydrogeology; or related disciplines. Eight (8) or more years of relevant work experience managing leaking underground storage tank projects. Demonstrate strong interpersonal communication skills. Professional Engineer (PE) or Professional Geologist (PG) certification, as applicable, or ability to obtain. Knowledge of relevant environmental regulations. 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard (HAZWOPER) certification with documented refresher courses. Prior project management experience.

    Job Summary

    Fishbeck is seeking an experienced Project Manager to manage Brownfield Redevelopment projects. The ideal candidate will lead technical aspects of projects originating from private investments, EGLE Brownfield Redevelopment grants and loans, USEPA Brownfield grants, and other programs. Responsibilities include site characterization, risk assessment, redevelopment environmental planning assistance, and preparation of environmental compliance documents. The role requires project management skills to coordinate with the client and various departments and ensure timely, high-quality project completion.

    Primary Functions

    • Manage Brownfield Redevelopment projects from inception to completion, ensuring all technical aspects are addressed. Projects often last 6-24 months.
    • Coordinate with Fishbeck’s internal departments and experts to develop collaborative project plans.
    • Develop and implement Health and Safety Plans, Sampling and Analysis Plans, Response Activity Plans, and other necessary documentation.
    • Conduct site assessments to characterize and evaluate exposure pathways for liability protection.
    • Prepare and submit compliance documents, including Due Care Compliance Documents, Inspection, Maintenance and Monitoring Plans, and Act 381 and Brownfield Grant/Loan Work Plans.
    • Ensure adherence to EGLE and USEPA Brownfield Redevelopment program requirements, including site eligibility, data quality objectives, and QA/QC protocols.
    • Develop conceptual plans and cost estimates for site development and risk mitigation activities, integrating them into construction schedules.
    • Oversee the implementation of site development activities such as vapor mitigation, soil caps and barriers, storm water treatment/infiltration, UST removals, soil management, and dewatering.
    • Manage project budgets, schedules, and scopes, ensuring timely completion and quality control. Communicate effectively with clients, team members, and stakeholders, providing regular updates and addressing any issues that arise.
    • Prepare proposals and manage invoicing, ensuring accurate and timely billing.
    • Stay updated on relevant regulations, industry standards, and best practices to ensure compliance and project success.

    Minimum Physical Requirements

    Much of the work is conducted indoors but may require occasional outdoor work. Outdoor work may include fieldwork, at times for long hours or under strenuous conditions, moderate lifting, carrying, and hiking through uneven terrain and construction or drilling sites. Indoor work takes place in an office requiring sitting, reading, and the use of a computer. Must be able to drive vehicle to project sites. Accommodation may be made for some of the physical demands for otherwise qualified individuals who require and request such accommodation.

    Desired Education/Licensure

    Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Engineering or other related field of study. Applicable experience may be substituted for educational requirements. Certified Professional Geologist (CPG) or Professional Engineer (PE) or other related certification a plus.

    Desired Skills/Experience

    • Sufficient level of experience working on environmental projects with 2+ years overseeing and managing technical aspects. Experience working on Brownfield Redevelopment projects is a plus.
    • Knowledge of Due Care Obligations under Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act (NREPA) and USEPA Continuing Obligations.
    • Expertise in site characterization and exposure pathway evaluation.
    • Proficiency in representative sampling strategies (e.g., statistical, incremental, etc).
    • Ability to prepare Health and Safety Plans, Sampling and Analysis Plans, Response Activity Plans, Due Care Compliance Documents, Inspection, Maintenance and Monitoring Plans, Act 381 and Brownfield Grant/Loan Work Plans, etc.
    • Understanding of EGLE Brownfield Redevelopment programs such as Brownfield Site Assessment program, Brownfield Redevelopment Grants and Loans, EGLE Act 381 Work Plans.
    • Knowledge of Data Quality Objectives, QA/QC requirements, and QAPPs.
    • Capability to develop and integrate plans for site development and risk mitigation into construction schedules.
    • Basic understanding of site and real estate development processes, including pre-acquisition due diligence, regulatory liability protection, incentive approvals, site preparation and construction sequencing.
    • Strong project management capabilities, such as proposal preparation, budgeting, scheduling, task delegation, scope tracking, field coordination, effective team and client communications, invoicing, managing deadlines, quality control, etc.
