    My name is Michael Szlinis and I applying for graduation this coming 2020 Winter semester at Schoolcraft College.  I am pursuing an Associate of Science as well as an Environmental Science Technician Certificate.  In order to complete the graduation requirements I have to fulfill a 40 hr internship in my field.

    • A thorough understanding of State of Michigan environmental regulations with particular emphasis in leaking underground storage tank facilities;

    1. Collects, documents, packages, and ships samples in accordance with appropriate project-specific sampling and analysis plans/protocols.
    2. Assists with routine and non-routine data collection activities for environmental monitoring programs, which may involve hazardous material/waste project sites.
    3. Assists with routine sample preparation and/or analyses, generally on site, in support of mobile laboratory operations or screening surveys.
    4. Completes documents and is responsible for quality control of all assignments.
    5. Follows and enforces company health and safety policies.

    Job Requirements

    Education
    High School education is required. Associates degree and/or background in sciences are preferred. May require training in site remediation and hazard protection.

    Storm Water Specialist

    This posting is for an intermediate level storm water specialist that will work collaboratively as a member of the University of Michigan (U-M) Environment, Health & Safety Department’s Environmental Protection and Permitting Program.  The primary focus of the position will include, but not be limited to, the overall management of the University’s National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Stormwater Permit and other related storm water compliance issues.  For consideration, applicants must have a minimum of 3 years’ experience managing a MS4 NPDES permit, which includes all reporting and compliance requirements of the permit.  Additional responsibilities may include: Joint Permit Applications, Threatened & Endangered Species Report evaluation, Wetland & Stream Delineation Report review, GIS, TMDL sampling, Floodplain Evaluation & permitting, sanitary sewer sampling, and other general environmental permitting & compliance.

    Arcadis is seeking a highly motivated and driven individual to serve as an Environmental Project Manager with our AFS (Arcadis FieldTech Solutions) team in support of environmental project implementation (technical reports, scope, schedule, budget management).  The position is project management oriented and, working under the supervision of project managers, you will perform task management activities including planning and tracking of scope, schedule, and budget in accordance with Arcadis project management requirements. The position will be located in our Novi, MI office.

    Other duties include:

    • Data analysis and writing technical reports
    • Regulatory correspondences and other project documentation

    Project Geologist/Engineer II

    Responsibilities:

    • Perform Phase I and II environmental assessments to support property transactions.
    • Conduct field work including soil, sediment, groundwater, and surface water sampling, aquifer testing, drilling oversight and soil logging, soil boring and monitoring well installation, well development, purging and sampling, and construction oversight.
    • Coordinate and direct drilling, surveying, and laboratory services.
    • Provide oversight on environmental remediation projects, and operations and maintenance of environmental remediation systems.
    • Assist in data interpretation and preparation of site work plans, spreadsheets, figures, and technical reports.
    • Assist in groundwater and remedial system performance monitoring, maintenance, and optimization.
    • Field work opportunities for this position will be year-round and will likely include some out-of-town travel.
    • Focus on team project delivery, taking direction primarily from Project Managers.
    • Work within quality/budget/schedule expectations and scope-specific assignments.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology or related field with a minimum of 3 years’ experience.

    Desired Qualifications:

    • Possess or have the ability to attain “Certified Professional Geologist (CPG)” status with the American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG).
