    ERM is seeking an experienced Environmental Compliance Consultant/Engineer to join our growing Performance & Assurance consulting team in Holland, MI. The successful candidate will work on a variety of technically challenging projects for clients in the energy, chemical and manufacturing sectors locally and nationally with increasing responsibility for task/project management duties.     RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Provide technical assistance/guidance on EHS compliance assurance projects.
    • Provide environmental compliance support to clients, including on-site assistance as needed.
    • Develop and review plans, permits, procedures and reports for air quality, hazardous waste, spill prevention, storm water, and wastewater program compliance.
    • Perform environmental compliance audits and implement follow-up corrective actions to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
    • Prepare threshold/release calculations in support of Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA) Tier II and Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) reporting for multiple sectors.
    • Implement environmental management systems and programs for corporate clients.
    • Perform litigation support projects under attorney-client privilege and EPA’s Audit Policy.
    • Prepare technical proposals and participate in business development with existing clients and identified leads. Maintain client relationships that generate repeat business.
    • Manage multiple projects within scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensure quality standards on project deliverables.
    • Communicate with clients, ERM employees, and vendors.

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • BS in environmental or chemical engineering, chemistry, environmental science, or related discipline; MS a plus.
    • 5 to 10 years of environmental compliance experience; consulting and management systems experience preferred.
    • Experience developing, auditing, and/or maintaining corporate management industry standards/compliance programs (either as a consultant or an internal compliance officer).
    • Familiarity with USEPA and MDEQ environmental regulations and understanding of environmental permit application processes.
    • Strong MS Office computer skills; advanced understanding of Excel required; PowerPoint and Access desired.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal and analytical skills; experience with detailed technical data and writing comprehensive technical reports.
    • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed.
    • Professional registration desired, or motivation to obtain.
    • Local candidates preferred, but not required.

    Summary:

    Barr Engineering is seeking a geologist to join its Grand Rapids office and undertake challenging and progressive work on projects related to the investigation, evaluation, and remediation of contaminated sites.  Assignments may include working as an individual or as part of a project team to assist with any of the following tasks: preparing technical work plans, cost estimates and contracting for investigations of contaminated soil, sediment, groundwater, and vapor intrusion; interpreting data; and preparation of drilling logs, geologic maps, cross-sections, and technical reports.

    Other responsibilities may include onsite investigations of contaminated soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, and vapor; aquifer test performance and analysis; and construction observation.  Onsite investigation tasks may involve observing drilling and monitoring well installation, classifying soil and bedrock samples, and collecting samples for field screening and laboratory analysis.  Field work opportunities for this position may be year-round and will likely include some out-of-town travel.  

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in geology, hydrogeology or geological engineering
    • 2-5 years of relevant work experience
    • Minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0
    • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members, regulators, and clients
    • Strong technical and problem solving skills
    • Attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness
    • Strong computer skills, including word processing and use of spreadsheets
    • A flexible working style and the ability to work independently and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needs
    • Willingness to travel and periodically adjust personal schedules to meet project needs (up to 15-30% travel and 30-50% field work expected; project needs will vary seasonally and over time)

    Project Manager-West Michigan

    ERG is looking for an engineer, geologist, or environmental scientist to join its Muskegon office. The person selected for this position will manage, complex work on projects related to site characterization, and evaluation of contaminated sites.

    Project work will include managing scope, schedule, and budget using teams of resources; preparing and implementing work plans and cost estimates for many types of environmental projects. ERG project managers oversee completion of reports, interact with internal and external customers, and track project budgets.

    Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, geoscience, geology or hydrogeology, have 5 or more years of experience related to Phase I/Phase II ESAs, site investigations, site characterization, data interpretation, and reporting, and have project management experience.
