    Project Geologist/Engineer II

    Location: Grand Haven/Grand Rapids, MI

    Lakeshore Environmental, Inc. (LEI) is actively seeking a motivated geologist/geoscientist/environmental engineer to join its Grand Haven or Grand Rapids Office teams.  The successful candidate will undertake challenging and interesting work on a wide variety of projects related to the investigation, evaluation, and remediation of contaminated sites.  The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated employee who can function independently and as part of a fast-paced team.

    Responsibilities:

    • Perform Phase I and II environmental assessments to support property transactions.
    • Conduct field work including soil, sediment, groundwater, and surface water sampling, aquifer testing, drilling oversight and soil logging, soil boring and monitoring well installation, well development, purging and sampling, and construction oversight.
    • Coordinate and direct drilling, surveying, and laboratory services.
    • Provide oversight on environmental remediation projects, and operations and maintenance of environmental remediation systems.
    • Assist in data interpretation and preparation of site work plans, spreadsheets, figures, and technical reports.
    • Assist in groundwater and remedial system performance monitoring, maintenance, and optimization.
    • Field work opportunities for this position will be year-round and will likely include some out-of-town travel.
    • Focus on team project delivery, taking direction primarily from Project Managers.
    • Work within quality/budget/schedule expectations and scope-specific assignments.
    • Assist in ensuring compliance with all federal, state and local regulations.
    • Communicate with Project Managers, subcontractors, regulatory agents, tenants, and clients during field activities.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology or related field with a minimum of 3 years’ experience.
    • Effective written/verbal communication and organization/analytical skills.
    • Strong commitment to safety, including following established Health and Safety protocols.
    • Valid Driver’s License and a good driving record
    • Ability to succeed in a consulting pace, handling multiple project assignments, and maintaining flexibility, while meeting strict deadlines.

    Desired Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Environmental Engineering, or related field with 5+ years’ experience.
    • Qualify as an Environmental Professional as defined by ASTM International (ASTM).
    • Possess or have the ability to attain “Certified Professional Geologist (CPG)” status with the American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG).
    • Detail oriented with mechanical aptitude with hands-on trouble shooting/problem solving skills.
    • Familiarity with Michigan Part 201 and Part 213 and associated guidance documents and operational memoranda.
    • Experience preparing documents for MDEQ and other regulatory agencies.

    Staff Asbestos Professional – NTH is seeking a staff level engineer, scientist or geologist for a full-time position with our Environmental Due Diligence/Remediation team in Northville, MI. The position requires an Associate’s Degree, Bachelor’s Degree preferred, in Civil or Environmental Engineering, Environmental Technology, Environmental Science/Health, Geology, Natural Resources or related degree from a 2 or 4-year accredited college or university.     • Experienced in reading and understanding chemical nomenclature, chemical reactions, performing stoichiometric conversions, reading SDSs and identifying key chemicals.
    • Experience in air release calculations (emissions factors, emissions controls, etc.) would be preferred.
    • 10 to 15+ years of EHS consulting experience in an industrial/manufacturing environment with exposure to a variety of manufacturing environments/sectors.
    • Extensive experience preparing and QA/QC reviewing threshold and release calculations for TRI reporting required; experience auditing TRI calculations/programs and use of EPA’s Audit Policy for compliance issue resolution highly preferred.
    • Experience developing, auditing, and/or maintaining corporate management industry standards/compliance programs (either as a consultant or an internal compliance officer).
    • Expertise with USEPA and MDEQ environmental regulations and understanding of environmental permit application processes.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal and analytical skills; experience working with detailed technical data; experience writing and QA/QC reviewing comprehensive technical reports and calculations.
    • Strong MS Office computer skills; advanced understanding of Excel mandatory; PowerPoint and Access desired.
      • Advanced skill set in the use of MS Excel - experienced in the systematic organization of large data sets and preparation of complex calculations using Excel. Must be able to do lookups and multi-layer/embedded sumifs and if/then formulas.
    • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed.
    • Ability to multi-task, maintain flexibility and work independently with minimal supervision.

    Summary:

    Barr Engineering is seeking a geologist to join its Grand Rapids office and undertake challenging and progressive work on projects related to the investigation, evaluation, and remediation of contaminated sites.  Assignments may include working as an individual or as part of a project team to assist with any of the following tasks: preparing technical work plans, cost estimates and contracting for investigations of contaminated soil, sediment, groundwater, and vapor intrusion; interpreting data; and preparation of drilling logs, geologic maps, cross-sections, and technical reports.

    Full-time position available for a self-motivated Environmental Professional proficient in completing standard Phase I and Phase II ESA projects.  Candidates must understand the components of project management and be capable of completing multiple, technically accurate, on time and within budget project assignments.  This is considered a staff to mid-level Project Management position depending on qualifications.  Position duties/requirements will include, but are not limited to, the following:
